What Is a Tonearm Cable?
In short, a tonearm cable is an interconnect that is specifically terminated to connect the turntable tonearm to a phono preamplifier.
Can Upgrading My Tonearm Cables Improve Sound Quality?
Yes. As with all speaker and interconnect cables, upgrade cables feature a higher quality, more conductive design and materials, which will produce a cleaner, more dynamic sound.
Can I Use a Regular RCA Cable Instead of a Tonearm Cable?
Turntables equipped with a tonearm featuring a removable DIN plug require a tonearm cable and cannot use a standard RCA cable. A tonearm cable is terminated specifically for use with such a turntable. One end of the cable will have a DIN plug, and the other end will have either RCA plugs or XLR plugs, depending on your requirements. A regular RCA to RCA type cable is generally used as an interconnect between audio components and may work on a turntable equipped with RCA outputs (although a separate ground wire will likely be required).
