What is the best cable for connecting a subwoofer?
A full-range audio interconnect cable is best for a subwoofer. For subwoofers requiring separate left and right input, Wireworld offers stereo subwoofer cables with a single connector for the processor side and two connectors for the subwoofer.
Can I use regular speaker wire for a subwoofer?
Yes and no. Many subwoofers offer high level (speaker level) inputs. This would involve running a speaker cable from your amplifier’s output to the subwoofer. There are occasions where this is the preferred connection method (REL Subwoofers recommend this, for example).
More commonly though, a subwoofer cable is an interconnect, not a speaker cable. AV Receivers and processors include a SUB OUT, which is a single RCA jack. This output is variable, so that you can match the subwoofer volume to the main and surround speakers, typically through an auto-calibration process.
Are Wireworld subwoofer cables compatible with all subwoofer brands?
Yes. Most subwoofers require a standard RCA plug, though with the vast array of available components, custom plug terminations are sometimes required.
What's the difference between a subwoofer audio cable and a regular RCA cable?
Conventional RCA cables are sold in pairs, while subwoofer cables are packaged individually. Subwoofer cables are also offered in different standard lengths than the pairs.
Do longer subwoofer cables reduce sound quality?
With most interconnects we suggest the shorter the cable, the better the performance.
